So I’m sure you’re wondering “Who the F**k is Sarah Portney?”

I’m Sarah Portney! (That’s me, up there ^^ )

I’m a 20-something girl from New York who just finished up a social experiment at Indiana University – Bloomington. (Experiment: “NY girl lives in Midwest for 4 years”, HMU for results). I’m back in New York and I’m ready for whatever life throws my way.

One of the greatest compliments I ever received was from an old friend. He told me “I miss you, but I can hear your voice even in your writing.” I pride myself on my written communication skills. I am a big believer in writing in your own voice as much as possible. Who wants to read something written by a robot? I thrive off of social exchange and interpersonal communication. I always have. Maybe this is why I chose to study Public Relations in College.

I am currently freelancing in the world of video production. This goes hand in hand with PR. Content creation is all about communication. “How can I tell this story in a way that is interesting and unique, easy to follow and communicates the message I am trying to get across?” This is the question I ask myself everyday.

It turns out, there is no cookie cutter answer to this question. There are many different ways to tell stories. I strive to tell the stories that you don’t hear every day. I love to work with people of different backgrounds and schools of thought. Chimamanda Adichie says to Beware the Single story and that is what I try to do in my work. As I build my career in the video production world, I hope to give a voice to the voiceless. I want to tell important stories and help to cultivate a positive environment wherever I find myself.
